Today's session focuses on tactical training.
8 vs. 8 on two full-size goals. 2 teams, each with different objectives.
The red and blue Colorballs are mixed in with the regular training balls.
Team A
Focus: Switching between aggressive counter-pressing and organized defensive play.
- Red Ball in play: Aggressive counter-pressing
- Blue Ball in play: Defending as a unit in the own half
- Regular training ball in play: Situational defensive behavior (no focus on a specific strategy)
Objectives:
- Coordinated defensive behavior as a unit
- Learning the difference: aggressive vs. patient defending
- Quick and precise switching between both strategies
- Coaching each other is fundamental
Team B
Focus: Identifying the opponent’s defensive strategy and adapting their possession play, including positioning, to the opponent's current defensive strategy.
Objectives:
- Quick and precise adjustment of their strategy with the ball according to the opponent's defensive structure
- Finding strategies for escaping the counter-press
- Strategies for breaking down a deep defending team
- Adjusting together and coaching each other
About the Colorballs: Only team A knows the meaning of the red and blue balls. Team B must identify the strategies in the game and adapt accordingly.
We’ve been working on this tactical drill for several weeks, now. The players understand it and feel comfortable with it.
Now, it’s all about one thing:
The ability to transition quickly and precisely as a team. This is a skill that top teams excel at.
The Colorballs help you and your team develop and perfect this skill. Playfully. Easily. Together.
